I completely agree that there should be some parameters surrounding teacher pay/raises/compensation, but I have a hard time basing this in large part off of test scores, and many other assessment forms are very subjective. I teach at-risk and youth in custody students many of whom are court ordered to attend school. My school (public) takes these from the other high schools in my district once they have (1)not attended, (2)been suspended, (3)are too deficient in credit to graduate on time.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if some of our evaluation is based on individual improvement over the course of a term, semester or year it would be more equitable. Although, I rarely keep a "youth-in -custody" over 65 days - this is a huge disadvantage to students who need the most help.
Sorry, I really get revved up about this.
